Climate change represents one of the most significant public health challenges of the twenty-first century, with emerging evidence documenting its profound effects on mental health. This study examines the influence of rising ambient temperatures on the prevalence of climate-related anxiety disorders, employing a mixed-methods approach that integrates quantitative analysis of temperature-anxiety relationships with qualitative exploration of lived experiences. The research objectives were to: (1) assess the relationship between regional temperature increases and the prevalence of climate anxiety symptoms across diverse populations; (2) identify demographic and psychosocial factors that moderate the temperature-anxiety relationship; and (3) evaluate the effectiveness of existing coping strategies and interventions for climate-related anxiety.
Drawing on data from multiple national surveys and cross-sectional studies conducted between 2020 and 2026, the research documents a significant positive correlation between rising ambient temperatures and climate anxiety prevalence. Findings reveal that climate anxiety is not uniformly distributed, with younger adults (ages 16-25) reporting substantially higher levels of climate-related distress, with up to 53% indicating negative impacts on daily functioning.
